I understand that Outlook for Mac / OSX will not sync outlook.com contacts or calendar, although this works fine with iOS e.g. IPad / iPhone.

Just google it and the issue is raised all over the place. Does anyone know whether this is going to be addressed by Microsoft and/or Apple or will it just be a permanent frustration? Apple people blame Microsoft since it apparently dropped support for something called Sync Service and does not sign up to some standard-ish formats (Cal-dev /iCal or similar). Microsoft people blame Apple for something or other. Closed systems? Not really sure, or interested.

Given that what must be a sizeable portion of the market wishes to use Microsoft Outlook software, many with Outlook.com (or Google I believe) mail accounts, AND to have the benefit of the shiny Apple hardware, why is nothing being done about it? Everyone I know runs Outlook on a Mac or Macbook, most having switched from PC in the last year or two. The majority use outlook / hotmail accounts as well and everyone is fed up with the surprise discovery of the non-syncing calednar / contacts. Apparently finding a way of having an exchange server is a fix, but assuming it's for personal use, there is no obvious solution. Very costly on Office 365 as it's not included in the personal / home versions and it doesn't make sense to pay for business. Apols for probably very innaccurate technical comments, but I think the basic point is correct.

Anyone know of any plans to address this issue? I purchased the 2016 suite with hopes there would be improvements made to Outlooks syncing capabilities. Who would have thought Microsoft would actually make the product worse by removing any attempts at syncing with Apple calendar and contacts altogether.

We now have a product, two thirds of which is useless (calendar, contacts) to most of the people it was made for. Seriously Microsoft?? While I'm at it, has anyone figured out yet how to build a 'PST creation' function into the Mac version of Outlook? The windows version has only had the ability to do so for the last twenty years. Same exact thing. Spent hours getting ready to transfer my workflow to Microsoft Office to use Outlook 2016 for Mac (been loving OneNote lately), and found out I cannot connect my calendar or contacts. Such a waste of time. Finally started considering Microsoft Office for my daily workflow and will now revert back to Google Web Interface or Apple Mail, Calendar, Contacts, etc, because of this silly and stupid oversight. If this lack of compatibility was intentional then it is an even bigger blunder than I could imagine possible by two of the biggest companies in the world. Please find a solution to this ASAP.

I can't believe this post has not been resolved. My understanding is that if both the Mac Mail and PC use exchange you can sync calendars, and other items or use the Mac Outlook version. But Outlook and Mail houses different calendar format normally. Thing is Microsoft use to support iCal but Apple change the format and Microsoft has refused to bring in the support for calendar sharing and syncing after the change. I don't know it if they don't know how or, they have simply put their foot down and said NO!
