Just received my Like-New EOS 20d from KEH, but it did not come with CD's for installing Software and Drivers. My Question is: Which Software and Drivers are needed to make this little gem function as I need it to? I can download them FREE at the Canon website, but there are a 'bizillion' choices. I am doing basic photography, amateur stuff, and a lot of pictures for eBay listings. I already own several EOS Lenses, formerly used on my EOS 5D (35mm), so I am ready to start shooting pictures and need the ability to download them to my PC.
Any and All help is appreciated. Howard, If you download and install Canons latest version of Zoombrowser, that should be all you need.Er. The most recent versions of Zoombrowser use Digital Photo Professional to handle RAW files, and cannot do so without it. Earlier versions used a separate converter called Raw Image Task. You will be shooting RAW to take full advantage of the 20D, won't you?
Here is a more detailed analysis of what you need and how you get it. Getting the software is easy: you just download from a Canon website. Installing it is not, if you don't have the original CD and cannot get some kind person to lend you one (or copy it for you – no, naughty, I did not say that). The problem is that the programs you can download from Canon are updaters that look for some Canon software already in place before installing the new (full) version.
The security on this is very lightweight – the installer just inspects some registry entries. You can find instructions on how to create these entries on the Northlight Images website www.northlight-images.co.uk and once you have done so the updaters will install. Next, what do you need? The latest version of Digital Photo Professional is central. Install the latest version of ZoomBrowser if you want, but there is very little point in doing so.
I only ever use it to enter text information in the Comment field – for some bizarre reason DPP cannot do this, although the contents can be read. Provided you transfer files from your camera by taking the CF card out and putting it in a card reader attached to the PC, this will all work fine reagrdless of whether your PC is running XP, Vista, or Win7, and regardless of whether it is a 32-bit or 64-bit system. If you want to be able to connect the camera directly to your PC, then you may have a problem.
You might want to do this: (a) to dowload files – but this is better donw with a card reader anyhow; (b) to enter your name in the camera as owner (and/or remove any previously entered name); (c) to control the camera remotely, that is, by a USB wired connection to your PC. The problem is that Canon have dropped support for direct connection of the 20D under recent versions of Windows, and I think you will either need to find a machine running XPSP2/3, or run under XP Mode after installing it under Win7Pro or above. Once you have done this you will need to install software that does the job. Can't be completely confident about this, but I think you can do it with a suitable version of EOS Utility (not sure what the last one to support the 20D was) and whatever driver the 20D requires. I think it is a very poor show that Canon have not maintained support for what are still perfectly useable cameras, but that's the way it is. Please don't post in bold with double spcing – very trying to read.
All the previous posts in this thread are correct, but I didn't read something very important (unless it was recently changed and I'm not aware): The software in the Canon website are updates to the software previously installed in your computer from the disc that was originally included with every camera, so you won't be able to just download and install a piece of software from their site, instead you need to begin installing the disc and then upgrade from the web. If you don't have the disc there may be a workaround, but this is the way that Canon thought was the way to do it.
Canon Drivers For Windows 10
The film camera was Canon EOS 5, without the D designator that distinguish the digital cameras. Yes, you are correct. My Canon 35mm SLR is a EOS 5 QD (not D). Shade 13 professional for mac. I have shot less than 10 rolls of film through it since new. My trusty Topcon Super D and Super DM are the mainstays for 35mm work, as I have most every RE Topcor Lens, Bellows, & Accessory ever offered. As for the CAPS, I am 69 yrs. Old and my vision is not that great.
Larger type is easier (for me) to read. I'll try not to use CAPS in the future. My pet peeve is ALL CAPS. I will try the most recent suggestion from Steve and, also, wait for a response from Canon Support in regards to my recent inquiry on available Software & Drivers for the 20d. Thanks again for all the help.

Howard, I am about the same age as you, so I remember the Topcon system very well. It was held in high esteem in its day, and I am sure that the folks on the Classic Manual Cameras forum would be delighted if you could post some images of your kit and photos taken with it. My camera of that era was a Canon Pellix, and before that I had a Wrayflex (early four-thirds camera, using a 24mm by 32mm frame!).
Enjoy your 20D. I had one as my first DSLR, and after one trip when I used it alongside my 1V, I never shot film again.

In that case install and run it in XP Mode (a virtual machine which is included in Professional or better editions of Windows 7).
