SYNC UPDATE - FIRST GREEN - JUNE 9 @ 5:10 pm (This Post was updated at 3:20 am EST June 10). The first green weather status in a good long while arrived at 4:11pm EST) and lasted about 45 minutes. We can see that thousands of users took advantage of even that brief period to sync, and with a very high percentage of success. There was a second green period last evening that lasted for an hour and 35 minutes.

Meanwhile it’s green again right now as I’m writing this (it went to green status about thirty minutes ago), and hope this one will last even longer. Note that if the status turns Red while you are syncing you should restore from a backup. Even if it tells you the sync completed successfully.

Also please remember that as soon as there is even the smallest interruption in the connection between FTM and Ancestry from our monitoring system, it will go back to orange again for at least two hours. As previously reported we do expect to have 2-3 interruptions a day on average until all Ancestry updating has been completed. We will keep you posted here and on our support site. CONSIDER UPDATING TO 23.1 We recommend updating to the latest version of FTM 2017, version 23.1, especially if you are experiencing any issues. About three hours ago (noon BOSTON time) we resumed automatic weather reporting (removing the automatic orange state we’d set) so the weather system is now working as it’s supposed to. It will turn the status green as soon as there are no interruptions in connections for two hours. That as you can all see hasn’t happened yet.

Since my post five hours ago, there has been something of a small sync storm and you may have noticed a number of red status appearances. Prior to my post there had been just one interruption in the previous eight hours. Since my announcement there have been several in a row, some of them significant. So no green at the moment means that the system is working as designed to keep your trees safe. Meanwhile, the worst of that storm seems to be over so we might still see some green this afternoon.

But if not, there’s nothing wrong with the weather reporting system. It’s the weather that’s bad. The system is working as designed. As my grandmother liked to say: Man plans and God laughs. READ THIS FIRST. Besides the usual 'always back up first' advice, here are two things to know about the free Update to FTM 2017 version 23.1:. This is not a required update. While we recommend it for all users, if you are happy with the build you have and want to stay with it, you absolutely can. That’s why “Check for Updates” is not turned on.

All FTM 2017 users will be contacted by email with details about the update so they can decide for themselves. This is an updater not an installer.

When you download and double click the updater, it will look for the first edition released back in July 2017 (build 343, version 23.0) and convert it to version 23.1. So you will not have a new separate build on your computer. The build you already have will be updated from 23.0 to 23.1. Here's what to do now: STEP 1 - BACK UP Make sure you have made a full manual backup of all of your FTM trees (File Backup).

If you are not sure how to do that, please click. STEP 2 - DOWNLOAD Download the updater using these links: FTM 2017 Updater for Windows (build #480) FTM 2017 Updater for Mac (build #480) STEP 3 - RUN THE UPDATER After you have completely downloaded the updater file (see DOWNLOAD TIPS, below), double click on the updater to run it and follow the on-screen instructions. STEP 4 - OPEN YOUR TREES All of your FTM trees should appear in the Plan workspace and any FTM trees linked to Ancestry trees should still be linked once you open them. If you don't see one or more of your trees listed, you can open them individually to add them to the list (File Open). DOWNLOAD TIPS.

Be patient. It may take a while to download the installer file. Please give it time to finish and do not click on the file while it is downloading!. Monitor progress. You can see the download progress in your browser’s Downloads window. When the download has been completed, the progress indicator will disappear and the full size of the file is usually shown.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS. Filename clues. If the filename has anything after the “.dmg” for OS X or after the “.exe” for Windows – such as “.dmg.part” or “.exe.part” – that is a sign that the file has not completely downloaded, so please give it more time. Installation error messages. If you get a message that a) asks you for an application to open the downloaded file, b) says the file is not recognized, or c) tells you that something else is wrong with the file, it's very likely that the file has not downloaded completely. Browser issues. If you are having trouble downloading with one browser, trying a different browser, such as Chrome, can be helpful.
